Select Board members raised longstanding concerns about temporary signage (sandwich boards, feather flags) and whether the current bylaw is enforceable. The building department was identified as the enforcement authority but members noted enforcement capacity constraints and large documentation requirements for citations. S1 said the town can either enforce the existing bylaw or revise it to reflect current practice.
"So I think we either need to have an enforceable bylaw or enforce the bylaw we have, which it may be good that we're not enforcing it because it may be too strict," said Chair (S1), who asked staff to determine why enforcement is inconsistent and to recommend next steps. On downtown parking, members decided to let Committee member Liz lead a future review when her schedule allows.
