Elko County board adopts opioid needs assessment to preserve settlement funding eligibility

The Elko County Board of Health voted to adopt the county’s opioid use disorder community needs assessment and opioid response plan, a document prepared with the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine and the Nevada State Office of Rural Health to maintain eligibility for settlement funding.

Chair introduced the agenda item, noting the plan "is required to maintain eligibility for funding through the Nevada Fund for Resilient Nevada" and that adoption does not itself authorize any specific program or expenditure. A county staff member summarized partnerships and the plan’s purpose, saying the assessment documents locally observed trends, existing community resources and potential strategies so local nonprofits can remain eligible for settlement-related dollars. "This plan allows them access to opioid funds," the staff member said.

A board member moved to adopt the plan "as presented"; another member seconded. The board approved the motion by voice vote with multiple members saying "aye" and the chair also casting an affirmative vote. Board members and staff emphasized that adoption meets a statutory/local planning requirement but does not commit the county to particular projects or spending decisions. The board directed staff to follow up as needed on implementation steps and to provide updates to stakeholders.
