Forest Service reports 44% staffing shortfall; Lamoille parking-lot work nearing completion

Greg Florrie, representing the U.S. Forest Service, told the commission district staffing is down about 44% across areas including wildlife and minerals and that much of the workforce is being shifted to fill gaps; he said fire response remained fully staffed. "Right now, like, we told you last month, our districts were down about 44% staffing," Florrie said.
Florrie updated on several projects: the Lamoille Canyon road-to-end parking-lot project was on track to conclude in early August, bids had been received for an MSC wall project that has been delayed until next year, and the South Ruby fish station had mechanical issues awaiting rural-electric repairs. He also asked for community help producing ornaments for the state's Capital Christmas tree program.
