BID reports banner inventory and awards two facade grants

Staff reported an inventory of banner and flag brackets being added to GIS for more equitable distribution next season and said the facade committee awarded two grants in June, including a $10,000 award for a corner building and another large renovation project backed by an owner planning a six-figure investment.
Staff said the BID has inventoried banner brackets, flag locations and hanging-basket placements and is importing that data into the GIS system to plan more equitable distribution next spring. Ten extra donated banners were installed on 6th Street this year and staff intends to provide a new distribution map for partners like the American Legion who place flags.
John also reported the facade committee awarded two grants in June. One grant of $10,000 went to a project at the corner of Walnut and Main; another sizable application by a property owner named Greg (the Pack & Ship / old Pilot building) met guidelines and secured funding to activate a concrete-block rear facade with windows, awnings and a balcony; Greg anticipates investing more than $100,000 in that work. Staff said it received eight applications totaling more than the $30,000 available and plans a new application round in November.
