Health department reports increased inspections, one suspected cyclospora case and ongoing Housatonic Water work

Health-department staff reported increased inspectional activity and revenue: since taking over on July 6 the collaborative reported issuing 37 food permits, two camp inspections, seven pool inspections and $7,000 in revenue in July, with inspectional activity ongoing. Staff said they were monitoring complaints and had followed up on 12 complaints in the last month and that they expect to issue enforcement letters when appropriate.
On communicable disease the staff reported there is probably one cyclospora case in Great Barrington and said they will confirm details and follow standard reporting. On the Housatonic Water Company project staff described a recent site visit to the new facility and underground works and said the utility hopes to complete the build this fall. Residents were asked to continue reporting any brown or discolored water so DEP and the company can log incidents and the board can track improvements.
