Staff member Bruce told the board the change took effect in July and that the county commission had already designated the auditor (and an appointee) to receive petitions. "State law changed in July that said the auditor's office has to accept them, or it can be appointed," Bruce said, adding that the planning office will still process applications and transmit them to the planning commission and county commission.
Board members asked how the change would work in practice; staff said the county's online system will generate copies for both the planning office and the auditor so statutory filing requirements are met while keeping the same internal review workflow. The board set a public hearing date for related ordinance language to be updated to reflect the change in filing location.
