Emily Benvy, Environmental Services Deputy Director, introduced a Playhouse Arts update and invited Jackie Dandenau, Playhouse Arts' executive artistic director, to present outcomes of the 2025–26 Call for Arts and community programming. Dandenau said the program ran from October 2025 through September 2026 and included about ten free public events across city parks, outreach workshops, and a community‑led “Illuminature” spectacle scheduled for Aug. 28 at Carlson Park.
"So this is a photo of Booknik in Chevre... We had 10 free public events, 11 city parks and hundreds of community participants," Dandenau said, describing storytelling, weaving, dance and lantern workshops that reached new park users. Playhouse Arts said grants from California State Parks and Parks California funded artist pay and made events free to the public. Organizers asked residents to reserve spots for the Aug. 28 spectacle to help with crowd management; the Playhouse also announced an art‑hydrant release planned for Oct. 4 at Porchfest and noted some local vandalism they are addressing.
City staff and council members praised the partnership and discussed cross‑posting events on the city website and asset mapping of public sculptures; council agreed to continue supporting the Playhouse's grant work and to explore closer website coordination.
