Court security reports screening totals; sheriff's office describes Starlink use and staffing openings

Kenny Watson, Randolph County Court Security Officer, reported February screening activity to the commission on March 5: 2,421 people were scanned, 263 knives and 10 pepper sprays were confiscated, 13 miscellaneous items (including torch lighters) were collected, and no firearms were taken. Watson also said the office received 39 inmates and served 119 people with papers, and that Officer Ritchie Cox is recovering at home after an illness.
Deputy Brian Roy reported that the sheriffs office has been using Starlink portable units for field connectivity and said 21 units were issued with 17 currently active; he said the system worked during deployments at Dolly Sods and Durbin. Sheriff Rob Elbon said the department will hold entry-level deputy testing in April and that three deputy positions are open.
