Anne Beardslee, executive director of the Elkins-Randolph Convention & Visitors Bureau, presented a PowerPoint report to the commission on March 5 outlining CVB activities, web traffic and a new visitor participation (discount) card. Beardslee said the card is intended to promote local businesses and will not apply to hotel bookings made through third-party booking agencies.
During the presentation Beardslee said Randolph County has seen growth "of Hotel/Motel Tax in the past year of 15 million dollars." The commission noted the growth trend when discussing Hotel/Motel allocations for events, but no county financial report was presented at the meeting to corroborate the specific figure.
