Sheriff says Starlink terminals are improving cruiser connectivity in Randolph County

Sheriff Robert Elbon Jr. told commissioners that Starlink terminals installed in patrol cruisers have improved communications in parts of the county that previously had poor service. He said units performed in Durbin and in a pursuit near the Glady/Bemis area and praised the Commission for allowing his office to obtain them.
"Starlink automatically kicks in when needed," the sheriff said, describing improved connectivity for deputies in remote areas. Commissioners later approved a state budget revision of $16,809.00 to reimburse Starlink kits and accessories.
Commissioners and staff discussed potential broader demand from EMS and fire departments for the terminals and noted the county will monitor costs and usage before expanding distribution.
