Randolph County approves consolidated Axon contract for Tasers and body cameras

Deputy Bryan Talkington presented a PowerPoint to the commission on Feb. 19 recommending consolidation of six separate Axon contracts into a single agreement covering Tasers and body cameras.
Talkington said the consolidated option would cost approximately $228,000 over five years with warranty coverage and included a trade‑in credit of $25,490.42. "It looks like they are giving us a credit of $25,490.42," Talkington said. He told commissioners the consolidated contract would replace 31 Tasers and 22 body cameras and could reduce costs versus keeping the existing layered contracts.
Sheriff Robert Elbon Jr. supported the procurement and noted the county's Court Security Officers would also use the equipment. Commissioner Chris Siler emphasized officer and public safety as the priority. The commission voted unanimously to approve the Axon contract as presented.
