North Mankato consultant reports survey: majority want climate action; public webinar set for May 6

City Planner Lassonde introduced consultant Ted Redmond, who summarized community engagement and survey results informing North Mankato’s Climate Action Plan.
Redmond said Pale Blue Dot has engaged roughly 200 community members through two community events and two online surveys, and that 177 survey participants provided the detailed response breakdown: 68% said the City should prepare for climate impacts and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and 62% said the City should be a leader in climate action. He reported respondent concern levels as 41% extremely concerned, 18% very concerned, 8% moderately concerned, 8% slightly concerned and 8% not concerned.
The consultant said staff will release a draft plan for community review, host a webinar on May 6 for input, incorporate feedback into the final plan and return the plan to the Council for review. No formal decisions or budget commitments were recorded during the session; the meeting adjourned at 6:58 p.m.
