Council sets May 5 hearing to consider suspending code requiring immediate lead/galvanized water-line replacements

City Engineer Sarff told the Council that the City’s ordinance currently requires replacement of discovered lead or galvanized service lines. Staff is pursuing grant funding for a comprehensive water-line replacement project and requested suspension of Sections 52.01 (D), (E) and (F) to provide time for review and application for grants. The suspension request is intended to allow a coordinated, grant-funded approach rather than immediate piecemeal replacements triggered by discovery.
Sarff explained the City is pursuing an AUAR for lands outside city limits to study environmental impacts of industrial growth and noted that grant timing and application requirements make the temporary suspension desirable. The Council voted to set a public hearing for 7 p.m. on May 5, 2025 to hear the proposed suspension and related ordinance amendments.
