Hardee County proclaims Sept. 4 National Wildlife Day, highlights county wildlife refuge

The Hardee County Board of County Commissioners on Sept. 4 unanimously adopted a proclamation designating Sept. 4, 2025, as National Wildlife Day after a presentation from Lacey Webb, the county's parks, recreation and marketing manager. Webb read the proclamation and described the Hardee County Wildlife Refuge as a local center for education, rehabilitation and conservation.
Webb invited the public to visit the refuge and said the county is distributing refuge passes to encourage attendance. "So we have over 30 animals at the refuge," Webb said, noting new animal signage and that "we did just recently get a new bear and she's going to be going out on exhibit soon." Commissioner Flores praised the refuge as "a great asset for Hardee County," and the board agreed to adopt the proclamation. The board took a signed copy and planned a group photo following the vote.
