Newburyport swears in firefighter and promotes two captains

The Newburyport City Council opened the meeting with a swearing-in ceremony for newly promoted members of the fire department. Fire Chief Rever told the council the changes follow a reorganization begun last July, noting the new captains are long-tenured and "deserving of the promotion." Chief Rever also said two captain positions remain to be filled and the department expects to address those openings in the coming year. The council and mayor offered congratulations on the promotions and the new hire.
