The council approved a consent-agenda request from the Central Virginia Business Coalition to close specified downtown streets for Bedford Center Fest on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026, from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Streets listed include West Main and Center, Center and Washington, South Bridge and Washington, South Street and Washington, Depot and North Bridge and others to create downtown vendor and parking areas.
Staff said affected businesses and emergency responders (police, fire, Bedford County Fire and Rescue) will be notified in advance, and event organizers indicated vendor demand remains high. The consent item was moved on the floor, the council conducted a roll-call vote and recorded seven ayes; the motion carried and the street-closure permit was approved.
Organizers noted this is a long-running event and vendors are on a wait list; the council thanked organizers and encouraged coordination with public-safety agencies.
