EDA approves a package of grant awards including parks Wi‑Fi, gateway signs and multiple water projects

At its Aug. 26 meeting the Hardee County EDA approved multiple grant agreements: parks Wi‑Fi ($30,000), gateway signs ($80,000), Huachula Hills Phase 9 sewer ($250,000), Bowling Green train depot ($125,000), Herb Bridge water main ($1,000,000), and Zolfo Springs water plant expansion ($300,000); motions carried unanimously.
The Hardee County Economic Development Authority approved a series of EDA grant award agreements effective Oct. 1, 2025. The board voted unanimously to approve the following awards and delegations of signing authority to the chair or county manager:
- Countywide parks Wi‑Fi infrastructure: $30,000 (motion moved by city manager Minshew).
- Gateway signs: $80,000 (moved by Commissioner Miller).
- Huachula Hills Phase 9 sanitary sewer: $250,000 (moved by Commissioner Wells). Sempron previously noted Phase 7/9 wastewater funding and an FDEP award for other phases.
- Bowling Green train depot improvements: $125,000 (moved by Manager Minshew).
- Herb Bridal/Herb Bridge Loop Water Main: $1,000,000 (moved by Commissioner Flores).
- Town of Zolfo Springs water treatment plant expansion: $300,000 (moved by Commissioner Chancey).
Each motion was seconded and passed without recorded opposition. For several items staff noted partnership roles (IDA, TDC, county public works) and indicated next steps include final agreement execution, contractor procurement, and implementation planning.
Separately, the board also approved a termination of the Riveter grant and release of $125,000 back to EDA reserves after the IDA declined to extend the contract and failed to provide required documentation; that termination was approved by motion and unanimous vote.
