Commission approves $250,000 operating amendment after missed inmate medical invoices

Budget manager Diane Moore told the board that a software change by the vendor handling inmate medical invoices caused invoices not to reach county staff, producing an under‑recorded expense line compared with the usual annual budget of about $500,000.
Moore said, "to date, we spent $267,000 inmate bills," and explained staff are asking for a $250,000 operating amendment to cover outstanding invoices and restore the contingency balance. Commissioners asked for detail on prior budgets and the process for routing invoices; staff said the county will continue to receive invoices and that contingency or budget reserves would absorb unexpected increases.
A motion to approve the operating amendment (agenda item 11c) was moved, seconded and passed unanimously. The board directed staff to continue monitoring incoming invoices and to report any new information to the board.
