BLDC to seek nine-year extension for Commerce-funded programs set to sunset in 2027

Kelly Sullivan told commissioners that several Commerce-funded programs that supply funding and services to local economic development work are scheduled to sunset in 2027 and that BLDC is asking area legislators to extend those sunsets. "The request is going to be to extend extend that sunset for 9 years," Sullivan said, describing the ask as a way to avoid having program expirations land in a near-term legislative session.
Sullivan named programs that would be affected — the food and ag program, the small business development center program and the CRDC program — and said local legislators have been receptive in preliminary conversations. The committee did not take a formal vote but heard this as an advocacy priority for BLDC heading into the next legislative cycle.
