Butte-Silver Bow finance director: certified values rose, enabling restorations and a FY2027 hearing

Director Hassler presented the county’s preliminary FY2027 resource-and-requirement schedule Aug. 5, telling the council that countywide certified taxable value had increased to $103,000,912 from $91,927,971 the prior year and explaining how that change affects mills and available appropriations.
“The certified value less our tax increment financing districts came in at a 103,000,912 for the countywide value,” Director Hassler told commissioners, and she outlined a proposed tax-supported appropriation need of about $35,652,000 and a total appropriation across funds near $157,000,000. Hassler said higher certified values made it possible to add back capital projects (courthouse roof and windows, road improvements, additional dump truck purchases, and a reserve for a type 1 fire engine) while keeping levy levels below last year’s mills.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions about homestead rates, changes to property classifications, and amendments listed in the preliminary packet. Hassler said the adoption timetable anticipates final budget adoption on Aug. 19 and that amendments will continue to be posted for review; the council opened the subsequent public hearing on the budget and called for proponents and opponents.
