Town considers AmeriCorps crew for spring 2027 to assist WUI and drainage projects

Proposed projects discussed include defensible-space work to support WUI compliance, drainage remediation at 7th E, and assistance with food-bank distribution; staff sought lower-labor ideas as well.
AmeriCorps requires hosts to specify whether chainsaws will be used and to provide housing for crew members. Nelson said she will contact St. Christopher's Mission to explore housing and may partner with local nonprofits depending on project scope. The application deadline is early September 2026.
