District staff told the Finance Committee that the 2025–26 Preliminary Budget has been prepared based on enrollment projections and estimates and that Michigan law requires districts to adopt a budget by June 30 each year. Staff recommended the Board adopt the 2025–26 Preliminary Budget Resolution, and said a public budget hearing will be held June 12, 2025 at 7:30 p.m. at the Board of Education meeting; the notice will run in the local newspaper at least six days prior and the proposed budget document will be available for public inspection beginning Friday, June 13 at the Educational Services Building.
Staff outlined key assumptions used to prepare the preliminary budget: possible state reductions in retirement offsets, increases in local property values, potential federal grant carryover reductions, elimination of previously expected transfers, and open items such as state per‑pupil allowance and categoricals still unresolved. The draft resolution was provided for Board consideration and will be before the Board for formal action following the public hearing.
