Lucas Christian Academy says accreditor left it little time to add classes; seeks modulars to meet requirements

Joseph Walker, a Lucas Christian Academy representative, told the Planning and Zoning Commission the school’s reaccreditation visit (January 2025) included a requirement to add sections: "the specific requirement that they gave us was to add 3 classes, 2 sections of each grade for 7th grade, 8th grade, and 10th grade," he said. The school said the requirement, combined with full use of existing classrooms, creates an immediate space shortage.
Walker said the modular units are intended to provide dedicated space — music, art, WAR (support for students with learning differences) and study halls — and insisted the request was not about increasing enrollment. "We are not trying to bring in more students, we're not trying to bring in more events... We would not be adding any students," Walker said. Commissioners pressed the applicant for a documented exit strategy and for a plan that the city could review within the two-year time frame staff recommended.
