County signs MOU to convert old I‑16 interchange bridge into Ocmulgee Heritage Trail crossing

Macon-Bibb County commissioners approved an MOU with Georgia Partner Transportation to convert a decommissioned GDOT bridge at the former I‑16 interchange into a pedestrian bridge and accept it into the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail. The county will assume maintenance responsibility after the bridge is completed and turned over following construction.
When Commissioner Kato asked for the precise location, county staff member Miss Beavers explained the structure is the conversion of an existing bridge at the old I‑16 interchange space and will connect into the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail. "So it will be at the old I 16 interchange space," she said. Commissioners expressed support and several signed on as sponsors; the motion carried and will be included on the consent agenda.
