Farmington Board hears IB program enrollment set to more than double for 2025–26

The board heard that enrollment in Farmington Public Schools’ International Baccalaureate programs is expected to more than double next year, with 80 eighth graders already registered for the IBDP class of 2029 and 16 students graduating the IBDP this year.
Tim Russell, Farmington Public Schools’ International Baccalaureate coordinator, told the Board that the district’s IB program is expanding and that enrollment is ‘‘expected to more than double in 2025–2026,’’ with 80 eighth graders already registered for the IBDP Class of 2029. Russell said 16 students will graduate from the IBDP this year and more than 60 seniors took at least one IB course.
Board members were told the program’s growth is part of an effort to change perceptions that IB is ‘‘too hard’’ and to emphasize its value for college readiness. Russell highlighted the Extended Essay — a 4,000-word research project — as a feature alumni cite as strong preparation for college.
