County reports mixed shifts in cannabis canopy, 48 active commercial operators

Staff presented canopy-square-footage comparisons showing indoor canopy gains and greenhouse and nursery declines; staff reported 48 active commercial cannabis operators (7 dispensaries, 36 farms, 5 others) and said more complete fiscal/budget data will be provided in October.
Michelle House presented comparative canopy metrics for the new fiscal year and a snapshot of active commercial operators. She said indoor canopy increased by more than 10,000 square feet compared with July of the prior year, greenhouse (no-lights) canopy decreased by roughly 250,000 square feet, nursery canopy decreased by about 52,000 square feet, and mixed-light canopy rose by roughly 16–17,000 square feet.
She also reported the county currently has 48 active commercial cannabis business operators: seven dispensaries, 36 farms (including six nursery-only operations and 30 mixed nursery/cultivation farms) and five others that include manufacturing, distribution and processing. Michelle cautioned some items required more complete data and that a fuller closeout of fiscal and performance measures will be presented at the October meeting.
Michelle explained one farm filed a cessation of business that was actually only a name change and therefore did not reduce the canopy totals; staff continue to refine their data collection and reporting approaches.
