Superintendent presents first reading of seven policy updates, including new AI policy

Julie Nielsen presented a first reading of seven policy updates and thanked the policy committee for its work. She said several policies received grammatical and legal updates and emphasized the district is bringing forward a new responsible‑use of artificial intelligence policy at MSBA’s recommendation.
"The real goal of getting this policy in place is to make sure that as the school year starts, we have some regulations in place as staff students utilize AI," Nielsen said, adding that the director of technology will return in October to walk the board through implementation and allow the public to ask questions then.
Nielsen noted the policies will remain open for board questions this evening and that staff can bring adjustments back as needed after initial implementation work. There were no members of the public in the audience signed up to comment on the policies at this meeting.
