Elementary interventionists Donna Squires and Deneen Phelan presented the board with beginning-of-year AIMSweb literacy data that the district will use as the fall baseline to identify students needing additional instruction. They described a process of pinpointing individual skill gaps, setting reading goals, progress monitoring and providing targeted small-group instruction to move students toward the plan's stated target of 80% grade-level reading proficiency.
Squires and Phelan told the board they will return in January with updated AIMSweb results to show progress toward the School Improvement Plan (SIP) Goal No. 1. The interventionists emphasized the AIMSweb baseline is foundational to placement decisions and ongoing progress monitoring for the elementary program.
