DNR grant team reports canopy assessment is three-quarters done, sensors to be collected this month

The Poulsbo Tree Board heard a progress update on its DNR-funded urban-canopy project, with the project lead saying the team is roughly 75% finished with canopy assessments and about 50% done with georeferenced maps.
"We are about 75% done with all of the canopy assessments. We're about 50% done with the geo referencing maps," the grant lead said. She added the team will collect sensors at the end of the month and compile the data for statistical analysis. The interns assisting the project are scheduled to finish next month; some will transition to continuing data work.
Board members said the analysis will provide a baseline to inform recommendations to the mayor and city council. Staff noted the grant award of about $46,000 will fund the work and that results are intended to produce potentially actionable recommendations on tree retention, protection and municipal code adjustments.
