Poulsbo parks staff urges two‑year visibility push and a community survey

Parks & Recreation staff told the commission they want to shift from annual to two‑year goals to match the city's budget cycle and asked the commission to make increasing public awareness a central objective.
"Not enough folks know all that we're doing, and not enough folks know what the commission's doing," staff said, outlining tactics including commissioner appearances at summer concerts, presentations to service clubs, improved social media and a strategic marketing plan. Staff argued visibility would help when seeking grants, partners and budget support.
Commissioners and staff discussed survey approaches to measure baseline awareness and engagement. Staff suggested a full recreation assessment that could be run in‑house to avoid contracting costs of $60,000–$100,000 and noted limitations in prior survey samples. "One of the goals... is to do a recreation assessment... and probably do it in house compared to contracting out for 60 to $100,000," staff said.
The commission asked staff to circulate an updated draft of goals by email and to seek community input; staff said they would provide a proposed update in time for the November meeting so commissioners can finalize goals for the coming year.
