Commissioners signal conditional support for Mountain Rail but seek resolution and attorney review

Staff explained that station siting and facility development fall primarily inside town limits for proposed stops (Winter Park, Fraser, Kremmling) and that the county's role would likely be supportive and advocacy‑oriented rather than permitting or direct site development. "For us, it's a little bit odd because all of the stations are in existing towns ... so the station development is outside of the county's jurisdiction," Chair said when outlining the county's likely role.
Commissioners debated costs, service reliability, and the tradeoffs of prioritizing regional rail versus local maintenance needs such as roads. Several members said the county should remain at the table to advocate for as many local stops as possible, authorize the chair to review a proposed resolution of support subject to attorney review, and direct staff to return the resolution for formal consideration.
