Lisa Hogan, who previously served on the district's school board, answered five standard questions in a special meeting interview for the Region 2 vacancy. The board used a uniform format — five questions and 15 minutes per candidate — and will consider nominations at the Aug. 11 committee-of-the-whole meeting.
Hogan said she is "passionate about education" and that her prior board experience would allow her to "hit the ground running." She described her professional background as a master's-level social worker who works with teenagers and has experience in mental-health support that she said is relevant to school governance: "I have a lot of experience in in mental health with with teenagers and I think that that is a topic that is very present."
Hogan told the board that governance includes setting budgets, listening to district professionals and steering policy using staff expertise. When asked about challenges she cited funding and mental health resources as the largest systemic issues: "The biggest... is funding. So that is, has long been a challenge in in this state due to how, due to how we the state has structured education funding." The board invited both candidates back for the Aug. 11 committee meeting where nominations will be discussed.
