Jason Sadowski, a Region 2 resident and Coast Guard veteran, appeared before the Boyertown Area School District special meeting to answer five standard interview questions for the vacant Region 2 board director seat. The board allotted each candidate 15 minutes and will consider nominations at the committee-of-the-whole meeting on Aug. 11.
Sadowski framed his interest as an extension of military service: "I'm interested in serving on the school board, because after my 24 years of coast guard duty, I... I felt like a piece of me was missing. And that piece was the service piece." He said schools "build strong communities" and that he wants to help protect the district where his family lives.
Describing the board's role as governance rather than operations, Sadowski said elected directors should rely on professional staff while focusing on long-term planning. He cited federal budget experience as evidence of those planning skills: "I've managed a $150,000,000 budget at the federal level, when I was in the coast guard." He said his biggest short-term challenge would be learning district-specific budget details but that his experience as a problem-solver and communicator would help.
On systemic challenges facing public education, Sadowski said the "biggest challenge" is public trust and engagement with parents, and he emphasized communication and outreach as remedies. The board noted the next step: a nomination discussion at the Aug. 11 committee-of-the-whole meeting at 7:00 p.m.
