Board approves multiple variances for 255 Forest Glen Drive including hot tub and covered patio

Nicole Penfold told the board the shed has existed about nine years and the hot tub and covered patio were installed or started prior to her learning they required variances; she said the hot tub’s electrical work has been inspected. “I have 2 or 3 [neighbors] that wrote in, that had emailed in to Lisa and Melanie,” Penfold said, and staff read two letters into the record expressing support.
Board members agreed the parcel’s unusual shape and the location of the house make the proposed placements reasonable and that moving the hot tub or patio would impose a financial hardship. The board moved to approve three variances — for an 8-by-12 shed in a side yard, a hot tub in a side yard, and a 16-by-34 covered patio with a 32-foot setback to the street where 55 feet is the neighborhood average/minimum — with conditions that the applicant obtain all necessary building permits and comply with applicable codes. The motion passed on roll call.
