Grand County pauses Genesys emergency-alert rollout, keeps CodeRED in service

Grand County's Office of Emergency Management recommended indefinitely suspending the county's planned switch from CodeRED to the Genesys alert-and-warning platform after the implementation team discovered mapping and integration problems that staff said would undermine public registration and evacuation mapping.
Lana Lang (deputy director, Office of Emergency Management, speaker 21) told the Board of County Commissioners that work with a policy group and partners revealed a mapping issue in the platform and that Genesys provided a patch the county found "clunky" and insufficient for the public interface. "The decision has been made to indefinitely suspend the implementation of the Genesys platform until we're confident those mapping issues can be resolved," Lang said.
Lang said county emergency notification capability remains intact: CodeRED will continue to be used for public alerts and the county will use IPAWS when appropriate. Sheriff Brett Shortland (speaker 12) supported the pause, citing past successes with CodeRED and concerns about mistakes other jurisdictions experienced when moving too quickly to new platforms. Commissioners asked staff to continue working with vendors and partners and to keep the public and towns informed of the status of evaluation and any future timeline changes.
OEM staff said they will reassess Genesys if the vendor supplies a clean, timely solution; in the meantime the county will train partners on existing systems and continue contingency planning.
