City staff provided updates during the April 20 meeting. Community Planning Director Meredith Penny reported the Energize Langley grant closed on April 15 and Island County is working on the risk-assessment portion of the Hazard Mitigation Plan. Public Works Director Randi Perry reported that Jeremiah Pace is now a certified drinking water operator and a cross-connection control specialist and that Source Water Protection Grant phase 1 was closed out with potential funding available for phase 2.
Perry also said sewer comprehensive plan preplanning is underway and that Langley was selected for a scenic bikeway program. Chief of Police Tavier Wasser noted council members asked for a tour of the new evidence room and queried about traffic enforcement along 6th Street once edge-lane changes are implemented.
