Board adopts safety, surveillance and related policies; cell-phone rule left for later

The Board conducted second readings and approved a set of safety and security policies: Safety and Security (5680), School Safety Plans (5681), AEDs (5682), emergency drills (5683) and Use of Surveillance Cameras (5684). The motion to adopt the policies passed unanimously (motion by Mrs. Carnes; seconded by Mr. Sweeney, Jr.; vote 5–0).
Principal Dr. Love reported on a Nov. 19 public hearing about Safety Plan changes related to Desha's Law that had no attendees, and she said required teacher training will meet the Jan. 20 deadline. Dr. Love also presented a Code of Conduct survey and cell-phone usage data—63% of respondents favored no change; other responses preferred allowing device access at the end of 9th or 10th period. Dr. Love recommended leaving the current policy in place until the end of the school year and returning to the Board with data later; the Board concurred.
