Board approves special-education agreement after public concern over placements
Summary

During public forum, teacher and resident Mrs. Ashely Atwater asked whether Agenda Item 8.C—the Intermunicipal Cooperation Agreement regarding Special Education Placements—might allow students into programs unfamiliar to the district and thereby hinder the district’s developing 12:1:1 program. Superintendent J. Reimer responded that the agreement was developed in consultation with the BTU and "there was no intention to open this program up to additional students; rather this is for a child that has been in the class the entire year" and would not change the class size.
The Board then voted to approve the Intermunicipal Cooperation Agreement with the Lockport City School District for the 2025–2026 school year (motion by Mrs. Carnes; seconded by Mr. Sweeney, Jr.; vote 5–0). The motion and the superintendent's explanation were recorded in the minutes; the agreement was described as preserving the student's placement rather than expanding program enrollment.
