Council OKs early signature on Placer AI contract to save $4,000
Summary
Council authorized the mayor to sign a two‑year Placer AI contract early to secure a $4,000 savings; the contract runs from Jan. 1 and is presented as a lodging‑tax‑funded request though LTAC will confirm funding for 2026.

Council authorized the mayor to sign a Placer AI contract ahead of schedule to secure a signup bonus and save the city roughly $4,000 on the two‑year agreement. Jeff (S18) told the council the early signature would not change the contract’s effective date (Jan. 1) but would reduce the city’s cost from about $20,000 to $18,000 per year under the current offer.
Council member Pam (S16) moved to authorize the mayor to sign the Placer AI contract before Dec. 1; the motion carried on a voice/roll call. Staff noted that the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee is funding the Placer AI subscription for the coming year, and that if LTAC or council later declines to fund it for 2026, the contract includes provisions (per staff and legal review) to avoid ongoing fees if LTAC does not continue funding.
The early‑signature approval is procedural: the mayor may sign the contract, which will begin Jan. 1, 2025. Council asked staff to coordinate training and rollout dates once the contract is active.
