County authorizes $225,000 in TANF subgrants to El Centro for summer camp and clothing programs

The board approved two Job & Family Services subgrants to El Centro de Servicios Sociales: $150,000 for summer camp and $75,000 for a clothing, shoe and jacket program for TANF-eligible households, both effective June 1–Sept. 30, 2026.
The Lorain County Board of Commissioners on May 8 authorized two subgrant agreements between Job & Family Services (JFS) and El Centro de Servicios Sociales Inc., using Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funds.
Resolution No. 26-282 approves up to $150,000 for a summer camp program for low-income Lorain County children (effective June 1–Sept. 30, 2026). Resolution No. 26-283 authorizes up to $75,000 for a clothing, shoe and jacket program for TANF-eligible households over the same period. Both agreements include authorization for the JFS director to execute and amend agreements (with prosecutor approval as to form). Bobby Taylor, Director of Planning and Grantsmanship for Lorain County Community Action Agency, told the board he was “in strong support of #11, JFS and contract with El Centro for the clothing, shoe and jacket program” and said partners would help ensure the programs reach children in need.
