Board weighs building consolidation amid forecast, asks for multi-year capital plans

Superintendent Brian Rentsch told the board on Feb. 9 that the district's financial forecast, together with recent facilities problems and the capital plan, require evaluating options to save money, which could include consolidating buildings.
Board members asked for specific alternative plans and timelines. Rentsch said he will work with administrators to prepare options (plan B and C) and 1-, 3-, 5- and 7-year capital plans for each building so the board can assess possible closures or other changes. The discussion followed Buildings and Grounds Supervisor Bradon Smith’s report of multiple equipment failures exposed by recent weather.
