The Woodlands park, opened May 9, has had steady use since its dedication, with event-shelter reservations averaging about one every two weeks, County Park District Director David Hitehouse said. He told commissioners the district is pricing power and water to add next-year utilities to increase park usability for events.
Hitehouse said Ringcavens Park currently has power turned off after a storm-related limb punched a hole in the shelter roof above a breaker panel; staff shut power "till we can patch that roof and get things sorted out." Because Ringcavens is leased from the state, the district said it likely will not use Knox County dollars to repair the line between the two shelters; instead, the district will coordinate with the state's lessor and restoration providers to complete repairs and restore power.
