Special education staff outline parent-survey work and outreach to increase assessment participation

J. Duerr, Director of Instructional Services and Special Education, summarized the State Performance Plan Indicator #8 effort to measure parent perceptions of school facilitation of parent involvement for children receiving special education. She said parents/guardians at CSE and CPSE meetings receive an anonymous survey to provide the state feedback on how schools partner with families to improve services.
Duerr described the ELA Targeted Skills Group (TSG) inventory and needs-assessment work that includes administration and instructional staff; she also noted distribution of a handout to grades 3–8 families after break to explain testing benefits and address misconceptions, with the goal of improving participation rates. Duerr additionally mentioned the AFS Fair on March 1 and a coordinated book-collection effort to support students and families.
