Katie Flaniken presented results of the 2024 Utah Wellbeing Survey to the Vernal City Planning Commission, saying the survey is conducted in partnership with Utah State University as part of the Utah Wellbeing Project and is available to Vernal residents ages 18 and older. She reported that 491 residents responded, with average personal wellbeing at 3.6 out of 5 and community wellbeing at 3.12 out of 5.
Flaniken highlighted the survey’s top concerns: affordable housing, youth opportunities, water supply and public safety. She said the City receives the data at no cost and that the findings can support planning decisions, grant applications and infrastructure priorities. She also noted outreach plans to boost participation among underrepresented groups, including adult males, renters and residents without college degrees.
Commissioners asked about outreach and how the City could use the data in grant applications. Flaniken described planned efforts including social media campaigns, partnerships with community organizations, QR code distribution and in-person engagement at community events to improve response rates. She encouraged commissioners and residents to promote the survey so the City’s data better reflects local needs.
