Board approves revised safety plan to meet Desha’s Law training deadline

The Barker Central School District Board of Education voted unanimously to approve a revised District Safety Plan intended to satisfy training requirements under Desha’s Law.
Dr. M. Love told the board the required staff training has been rolled out and that Physical Education teachers have begun the student training required by the statute, saying the District “should be in compliance with the January 20, 2026 deadline.” The motion to approve the plan carried, Yes: 7, No: 0.
The plan was presented as a revision to the 2025–26 Safety Plan; the Board took the measure after a first reading and discussion earlier in the meeting. Superintendent J. Reimer and administration will oversee implementation and follow-up to ensure completion of the mandated training and any reporting required by the state.
