Committee members identified multiple job titles currently lumped together — for example, master patrolman grouped with crew leader or maintenance superintendent — and said separating classifications would better reflect responsibilities and provide internal promotion paths.
"When you lump them up, I don't know if they're all equally yoked. They're they should be ranked," one member said, arguing reclassification could relieve pressure on the top steps for some roles.
Staff described prior work (a Jacobs study) that created job descriptions when the city had none; members said the city is further along now but still needs better classification to allow pay progression for specialized roles.
