Charlestown maintenance director credits quick snow response, lists recent repairs and events

Jim Wysong, the city's maintenance director, told the Charlestown Infrastructure Committee on Jan. 27 that crews handled several snow events in early January while supporting holiday and civic events downtown and at CW Hall.
'On Jan. 6 we came in early, we plowed, and did the sidewalks and salted,' Wysong said as he summarized the department's winter operations, adding that crews returned for additional events on Jan. 11 and Jan. 19 and did targeted salting and overnight piling to keep streets passable. He also described support work for the Christmas tree lighting and parade and said staff assisted with security and logistics when the county used CW Hall for early voting.
Wysong reported facility projects including a recently installed roof on City Hall, for which a warranty packet is expected on Friday. 'That roof has a, you know, a 30 or 40 year warranty,' he said. He briefed the committee on HVAC repairs at 661 (front-lobby complaints were traced to VAV issues), ongoing painting and curb work in the downtown area, and the installation of roughly 35 new downtown parking signs placed during slow-weather days.
Committee members thanked Wysong for the crew's work during storms and holiday efforts. The committee had no further questions and moved to the next agenda item.
