Board approves Avalon ACH and credit-card processing to cut online fees

The board voted to adopt Avalon, an ACH and credit-card processor affiliated with Community Bank, for online payments including taxes, water and sewer accounts. A town staff member described the service's ACH option and a lower per-transaction cost for customers who use bank debit, saying it would reduce the large credit-card fees some taxpayers currently face.
"They have an ACH where they can take it from their checking account, and it costs them a dollar 95," the staff member said. The speaker added that the vendor integrates with the town's tax system (TCS) used through the county, which should reduce payment errors and allow residents to retrieve bills by parcel number.
A board member moved to accept Avalon's ACH and card-processing solution and another board member seconded; the motion passed with unanimous vocal approval. The town plans to install the system software and hardware and said the vendor is scheduled to do the install soon, subject to equipment delivery.
