At first reading, the council approved an ordinance to vacate and abandon a portion of Iron Bridge Road (also described as Old Bridge Road/1st Avenue) as part of a purchase-and-sale agreement. The councilor explaining the item said the paper road had been used for parking improvements and that vacating it would allow the contiguous property owner to take title subject to utility easements.
"I move we approve the 1st reading consideration of an ordinance vacating, abandoning, and non that portion of Iron Bridal Road... and authorizing the city manager and mayor to execute such quit claim deeds and other documents needed to implement this abandonment," a council member (S1) moved; the motion was seconded and passed on voice vote.
Separately, the council approved first reading of an ordinance to acquire a tract of approximately 2.869 acres in the Charlestown corporate district and authorized the city manager and mayor to execute documents to implement the acquisition; that motion also passed unanimously by voice vote. Staff said closing will occur around Feb. 19 and the measures are deliverables required for the related real-estate transaction.
Next steps: both items will return for subsequent readings as required by ordinance and to complete closing deliverables.
