Valerie Piante, economic development director, said the proposed project would rehabilitate an inactive runway to create a taxiway, add water and sanitary sewer to the infield, add stormwater retention and provide an alternate access road. The county plans to use $1.6 million from its economic development incentive fund plus FDOT money ($1.8 million previously allocated) to meet the required 20% match.
Staff said letters of intent from private companies indicate more than $60 million in private investment tied to the airport improvements. Commissioners praised the project as growth‑oriented; the board voted 5–0 to authorize the grant application and directed staff to return for final approval if the award is offered.
